Iran has shot down a United States drone the Defense Department has confirmed. There is a dispute if it was shot down over International Airspace or Iranian airspace. The State Department claims Iran has shot at another drone less than a week ago.
This event is on the heels of claims of bombing oil tankers in response to oil sanctions. State Department reports the drone was shot down over the Strait of Hormuz. This region is claimed to be unregulated international airspace.
In 2011 Iran Captured a US stealth drone for invading its airspace multiple times. Iran's fleet is now based off of the technology the captured drone is based on.
